The most common approach to searching unstructured data is the use of keyword searches. Although this method can identify documents in which the keyword appears, it cannot determine how relevant the document is to the subject being researched. It simply looks for the occurrence of keywords, unable to decipher whether the concept represented by the search term is related to the main idea of a document. In addition, keyword-based approaches sometimes make the mistake of assuming that the more often a word occurs in a document, the more relevant the document is to the search.
